Written by tckirkham

Boston Phoenix critic Gerald Peary's film "For The Love Of Movies"
is returning to Boston for a limited run at the Museum of Fine Arts,
and will screen several times this week, beginning this evening. The
film played the Independent Film Festival of Boston this past spring,
winning a rave review from State Of Independence.

Here is the press release about the local screenings. I urge everyone who can get there to stop by the MFA and check it out!

Mr.
Peary will be discussing his film with me on an upcoming edition of
IndieFilmSpotlight.com's podcast State Of Independence – be sure to
keep an eye out!

Movie criticism is alive and well!

For the Love of Movies: The
Story of American Film Criticism
, the acclaimed feature documentary by Cambridge
filmmakers, director-writer Gerald Peary and producer, Amy Geller, comes to
Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts for five screenings – September 9-13, 2009.  The film offers a 100-year history of
criticism through clips from Hollywood movies and illuminating, entertaining
interviews with many of America’s key reviewers, including Roger Ebert (The Chicago Sun-Times), A.O. Scott (The New York Times), Lisa Schwarzbaum (Entertainment Weekly), and Wesley Morris
(The Boston Globe).

                “We’ve been playing film
festivals throughout the US and abroad, including San Francisco, SXSW, Hong
Kong, Edinburgh, Jerusalem, and the Independent Film Festival of Boston” says
Peary, a professor at Suffolk University, Boston, and a long-time film critic
for the Boston Phoenix “We are
thrilled that the prestigious MFA in our home town will be the start of a new
phase for our film, screening at museums, art centers, and indie theatres.”

For the Love of Movies features a production team
of Boston professionals, including editors Sabrina Zanella-Foresi   and Aleksandar Lekic, cinematographers Nick
Kurzon and Edward Slattery, sound designer Robert Todd, colorist Dave Allen,
and composer Bobby Keyes. In the eight years that it took to make the
documentary, film criticism in print devolved from an established and respected
occupation to one threatened with extinction by firings and newspaper closings.
For the Love of Movies is a pro-film
critic movie, whether in print or on the Internet, standing strong for a
profession under siege.

“At times, we thought our film would never get
finished,” says Geller, also a senior producer for NKP Media in Newton. “But we
thank the Boston film community for help and advice along the way, and to WGBH,
Boston University and Suffolk University for providing editing space and equipment.
We are grateful to the LEF Foundation, the Helios Foundation, and the Poss
Family Foundation for deciding to back our project.”

The
MFA screenings, with the filmmakers present, will be:

·
Wednesday, September 9, 5:30 pm

·
Thursday, September 10, 8 pm

·
Friday, September 11, 6:30 pm

·
Saturday, September 12, 3 pm

·
Sunday, September 13, 10:30 AM

Tickets
are $10 general admission, $8 for MFA members, seniors, and students.   Tickets for the Sunday matinee screening are
$7 and $6 respectively.

To
purchase tickets, please call the Remis Auditorium Box Office (voice)
